So much has been said about eggs and their link to cholesterol, Researchers at Boston University have come to the conclusion that eating five or more eggs a week can help reduce blood pressure, and blood sugar and could also lower the risk of type 2 diabetes, this was after they studied data on more than 2,300 adults and came to the conclusion that suggests eating eggs may actually promote heart health.
The egg debate has become very popular amongst diet management experts on social media most notably Tiktok, with many health creators preaching the positives of the egg diet and how it can help you lose weight and get healthier.
But even with the findings from the Boston University researchers, critics still warn that it is too early to declare eggs to be "healthy for the heart" because the study did not look at other heart disease risk factors like cholesterol levels.

So are eggs good or bad for your heart?
Let us start with the good stuff, eggs are rich in nutrients that are vital for your heart. They include;
A lot of protein, helps your body to grow and repair tissues.
Omega-3 fatty acids can aid to reduce inflammation and offer protection against heart disease
Vitamins and minerals, like vitamins B12 and D for heart health.
Eggs are known as important sources of lutein and zeaxanthin, which have been shown to lower the incidence of cataracts and macular degeneration, the primary cause of blindness in those aged 55 and over, egg yolks are also known to be beneficial for the eyes.
How should I eat eggs?
Those at risk for heart disease, diabetics, or who have had a heart attack are advised to closely monitor their cholesterol intake. Although eggs contain cholesterol, this does not necessarily mean they are unhealthy, eggs can be part of a heart-healthy diet when consumed in moderation.
This means that people should limit their consumption of other high-cholesterol foods like;
Red meat and processed meats
And also go for low-fat dairy products and healthy fats, such as olive oil.
In conclusion, despite having a lot of cholesterol, eggs also provide vital elements that are crucial for heart health. To lower the risk of heart disease, eggs should be eaten in moderation and in combination with other nutritious foods. Like with anything else, it's crucial to pay attention to your body and consult a physician or qualified dietitian if you have any worries.
