About this item

Aptamil 1 First Baby Milk Formula Powder is developed by Nutricia’s team of scientists based on 50 years of breastmilk research. This Stage 1 formula is designed to provide the essential nutrients infants need in their first half-year of life. It features a unique blend of GOS/FOS (prebiotics), DHA (Omega-3), and key vitamins. The powder is formulated to be gentle on developing digestive systems while supporting the rapid growth and brain development characteristic of the "fourth trimester" and beyond.

Uses of Aptamil 1 First Baby Milk This formula is used as a sole source of nutrition for infants from birth when they are not being breastfed. It can also be used for "combination feeding" (supplementing breastmilk). It is specifically designed to meet the total nutritional requirements of a newborn, supporting healthy weight gain, bone development, and immune system function during the critical first six months.

Active Ingredients/Nutritional Profile

Aptamil 1 is balanced to provide:

  • DHA (Omega-3): As required by legislation for all infant formulas, to support normal visual development.
  • GOS/FOS (9:1): A patented blend of Galacto- and Fructo-oligosaccharides that mimic the structure of prebiotics found in breastmilk to support gut health.
  • Lactose: The primary carbohydrate source, providing essential energy.
  • Vitamins A, C, D & Iron: To support the immune system and normal cognitive development.
  • Nucleotides: To aid in cell division and overall growth.

How to Use

Preparation & Dosage

The feeding guide on the back of the tin is a general rule; every baby is different.

  1. Wash hands and sterilize all equipment.
  2. Boil 1 liter of fresh water. Leave to cool for 30 minutes. Do not use bottled water.
  3. Measure the required water into the sterilized bottle.
  4. Use the provided scoop. Level off the powder with the built-in leveler. Do not press/heap the powder.
  5. Add the correct measure of powder to the water (Standard ratio: 1 scoop per 30ml of water).
  6. Shake well for 10 seconds to dissolve.
  7. Cool the bottle under a cold tap. Test temperature on your wrist (it should feel lukewarm, not hot).

Storage and Disposal

  • Store the tin in a cool, dry place (do not refrigerate).
  • Use the contents of the tin within 4 weeks of opening.
  • Discard any unfinished feeds within 2 hours. Never save "leftover" milk for later.

Pharmacist's Advice

o not use if the infant has a confirmed Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA).

Do not use if the infant is Lactose Intolerant (unless advised by a specialist).

Not suitable for infants with Galactosemia.

Side Effects

  • Common: Slight changes in stool consistency or color (normal when starting or switching formulas).
  • Serious: Persistent vomiting, severe diarrhea, or a red, itchy skin rash (may indicate an allergy).
  • What to do: If your baby shows signs of an allergic reaction or excessive distress after feeding, contact your pediatrician or pharmacist immediately.

Precautions and Warnings

  • Breastfeeding is best: It is recommended that infant milk be used only on the advice of a doctor, midwife, or health visitor.
  • Water Safety: Use only freshly boiled and cooled water (cooled for no longer than 30 mins to approximately 70°C). Do not use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water.
  • Hygiene: Improper preparation or storage can lead to illness (e.g., Cronobacter infections). Always sterilize bottles and teats.
