NAN 2 OPTIPRO (400g) is a follow-up formula developed by Nestlé to bridge the nutritional gap during the second half of a baby's first year. As infants begin eating solid foods, their protein and mineral requirements change. This formula features OPTIPRO, a modified protein blend that provides the high-quality protein necessary for healthy development without overloading the baby's still-maturing kidneys. It is designed to be a liquid part of a progressively diversified diet, helping to ensure that the transition to solids is supported by a solid nutritional base
Uses of NAN 2 OPTIPRO
This formula is used as a follow-up milk for healthy infants from 6 months onwards. It is NOT a breastmilk substitute for the first 6 months of life. It is specifically used to:
- Support Weaning: Complements the introduction of solids by providing iron and zinc, which are often needed in higher amounts after 6 months.
- Brain Development: Provides DHA and ARA (essential fatty acids) for cognitive and visual maturation.
- Digestive Health: Contains probiotics (typically Bifidobacterium lactis) to help maintain a healthy gut flora as the baby explores new foods.
Active Ingredients/Nutritional Profile
- OPTIPRO: An optimized protein source tailored to the needs of infants in the 6–12 month stage.
- Iron & Zinc: Fortified at levels appropriate for the weaning stage to support the immune system and red blood cell production.
- DHA (Omega-3): Critical for brain structure and eye health.
- Vitamins A, C, D: To support bone growth and the developing immune system.
- Calcium & Phosphorus: In a balanced ratio to build strong teeth and bones.
Preparation & Dosage
The 400g tin provides clear feeding instructions; always follow the ratio of 1 level scoop to 30ml of water.
- Sanitize: Wash hands and boil all feeding equipment for 5 minutes.
- Boil Water: Boil fresh drinking water for 5 minutes. Let it cool to 40°C (lukewarm).
- Measure: Pour the exact amount of lukewarm water into the bottle.
- Scoop: Add the exact number of level scoops as per the feeding table. Level each scoop with the inner rim.
- Mix: Cap the bottle and shake well until fully dissolved.
- Test: Check the temperature on your wrist and feed immediately.
Storage and Disposal
- Store the tin in a cool, dry place.
- Close the lid tightly after each use.
- Use within 3 weeks after opening.
- Discard any formula left in the bottle after a feed; do not refrigerate and reuse.
Contraindications
- Do not use if the infant has a diagnosed Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA).
- Not suitable for infants with Galactosemia.
- Age Restriction: Do not use for infants under 6 months of age.
Side Effects
- Common: Mild changes in stool consistency or frequency as the baby’s diet becomes more varied.
- Serious: Persistent diarrhea, vomiting, or an itchy skin rash.
