Dosage of Relcer Gel

Relcer Gel is an Over-the-Counter (OTC) medication.

Shake well before use. Take 5 mL to 10 mL (1 to 2 teaspoons) three to four times a day, or as directed by a physician.

Proper Administration

• Route: Oral liquid/suspension.
• How to Take: Shake the bottle well before pouring each dose. Measure the dose out carefully using a medication spoon or cup (do not use a household spoon).
• Timing: Typically taken 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime, or as required for symptom relief.
• Liquid Intake: The gel works best if taken without other fluids, allowing it to coat the stomach lining. You can mix the dose with a very small amount of water or milk if needed.

Missed Dose Guidance

• Not applicable, as this is an as-needed medication for symptom relief.

Contraindications of Relcer Gel

Do NOT take Relcer Gel if you:

• Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Aluminium Hydroxide, Magnesium Hydroxide, Simethicone, or any other ingredient (including Liquorice/DGL, if present).
• Have severe kidney impairment or kidney disease, due to the risk of magnesium and aluminium accumulation (hypermagnesemia and hyperaluminemia).
• Have low phosphate levels (hypophosphatemia).

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warnings

• Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. While often considered safe for occasional use, it is best to consult your physician before taking this medicine, as Aluminium and Magnesium absorption may be a concern with high or prolonged dosing.
• Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor. Use with caution; seek professional advice before using this medicine.

Side Effects of Relcer Gel

Side effects are generally related to the mineral antacids and are often balanced within the formula.

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Constipation (primarily Aluminium Hydroxide effect), Diarrhoea (primarily Magnesium Hydroxide effect), headache, or nausea.
• Serious but Rare Side Effects (that may require medical attention):
  • Hypermagnesemia/Hyperaluminemia: Occurs mainly in patients with severe kidney impairment, leading to muscle weakness, confusion, or bone issues.
  • Hypophosphatemia: With prolonged, high-dose use, it can cause low phosphate levels.

What to do if side effects occur:

• If you experience persistent diarrhoea or constipation, adjust your diet (increase fiber for constipation) or consult your pharmacist/doctor about reducing the dose.
• If any signs of severe confusion, muscle weakness, or a severe allergic reaction occur, stop the medication immediately and seek emergency medical attention.

Precautions and Warnings of Relcer Gel

• Drug Interactions: CRUCIAL WARNING: Antacids can significantly reduce the absorption and effectiveness of many other oral medications (e.g., certain antibiotics like Tetracyclines/Quinolones, Iron supplements, Digoxin, and some heart medications). Avoid taking any other oral medicine within 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking Relcer Gel.
• Kidney Disease: If you have any kidney issues, do not take this product without consulting a physician due to the risk of mineral accumulation.
• Duration of Use: Do not take the maximum dose for more than 2 weeks without medical advice. Persistent symptoms require a diagnosis.
• Diet: Avoid high intake of citric or citrus acid-containing foods, which can increase aluminium absorption.

The active ingredients are Aluminium Hydroxide, Magnesium Hydroxide, and Simethicone (and often Deglycyrrhizinated Liquorice). It is supplied as an oral suspension/gel (common sizes are 170 mL or 180 mL). It is an Over-the-Counter (OTC) Antacid and Anti-Flatulent.
