Dosage of Acneaway Cream

Acneaway Cream is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM).

Apply to the affected area once to several times daily as directed by the Physician.

Proper Administration

• Route: Topical (External Use Only).
• How to Use:
  1. Cleanse and gently dry the affected skin area thoroughly before application.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Acneaway Cream to the entire affected area.
  3. Gently rub the cream in until it is fully absorbed.
• Timing: Typically applied once or twice daily, as advised by your doctor, depending on the severity of the infection and inflammation.

Contraindications of Acneaway Cream

Do NOT use Acneaway Cream if you:

• Have a known hypersensitivity or allergy to Triamcinolone, Econazole, Gentamicin, or any other aminoglycoside antibiotic (like Neomycin) or any component of the formulation.
• Have viral skin infections, such as Herpes Simplex, Chickenpox (Varicella), Shingles (Herpes Zoster), or Cowpox (Vaccinia).
• Have Tuberculosis cutis or Syphilis skin manifestations.
• Have severe burns or open ulcers.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warnings

• Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. The safety of the corticosteroid and antibiotic components during pregnancy has not been definitively established. Use should only occur if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus, particularly avoiding large areas or prolonged use.
• Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor. It is unknown if topical ingredients are absorbed in sufficient amounts to pass into breast milk. Use only under medical supervision, avoiding application to the breast area.

Side Effects of Acneaway Cream

Side effects can occur, particularly with prolonged use or use under occlusive dressings.

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Mild to moderate local irritation (e.g., erythema and pruritus/itching) at the application site.
• Serious but Rare Side Effects (that may require medical attention):
  • Steroid-related Symptoms (Long-term therapy): Skin atrophy (thinning), striae (stretch marks), purpura (bruising), telangiectasis (spider veins), and steroidal acne.
  • Systemic Corticosteroid Effects: Long-term, extensive use may lead to systemic absorption, causing suppressed reactions to skin tests, increased sweating, or hirsutism (excess hair growth).
  • Bacterial/Fungal Superinfection: Overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.

What to do if side effects occur:

• For mild, temporary irritation, continue use as directed. If it persists or worsens, consult your doctor.
• If you notice signs of skin thinning, persistent rash, or any systemic symptoms, discontinue use and contact your doctor immediately.

Precautions and Warnings of Acneaway Cream

• Prescription Only: This cream should be used only under the direction of a physician.
• Duration of Use: Due to the steroid component, Acneaway Cream should typically be used for short periods only (e.g., usually not more than 7-14 days), unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
• Occlusion: Do not use occlusive dressings (bandages, tight clothing) over the treated area unless specifically instructed by your physician, as this significantly increases the absorption of the corticosteroid and the risk of side effects.
• Facial Use: Use with extreme caution on the face, as the skin is thinner and more prone to steroid side effects (like atrophy and acne).
• Avoid Eyes: For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.
• Discontinue Use: If superinfection or signs of systemic absorption occur, the cream should be stopped immediately.

The active ingredients are Triamcinolone Acetonide (corticosteroid), Econazole Nitrate (antifungal), and Gentamicin Sulphate (antibiotic). It is supplied as a topical cream in a tube (typically 20g). It is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM).
