Dosage of Imodium Instant Tablets
This is an Over-The-Counter (OTC) medicine.
- Adults and Children 12 years and over:
- Initial Dose: Take two tablets (4 mg) immediately.
- Subsequent Doses: Take one tablet (2 mg) after every subsequent loose bowel movement.
- Maximum Daily Dose: Do not exceed six tablets (12 mg) in any 24-hour period.
Proper Administration
- Administration: For tablets/capsules, swallow whole with a drink. For melts, place the tablet on the tongue to dissolve, then swallow.
- Best Time to Take: Take immediately after a loose bowel movement.
Duration: Stop taking as soon as the diarrhoea is controlled. Do not use for more than 48 hours without consulting a doctor.
Contraindications of Imodium Instant Tablets
- Known Allergies: Do NOT take if you have a known allergy to Loperamide or any other ingredients.
- Bloody/Infectious Diarrhoea: Do NOT take if you have a high fever, or if your stools are bloody or black (dysentery), as this may mask a severe infection.
- Antibiotic-Associated Colitis: Do NOT take if you have severe diarrhoea after taking antibiotics (e.g., C. difficile infection), as slowing the gut can prolong the toxin's effect.
