Dosage of Lokmal Tablet QS-Combi

Take as directed by the pharmacist or physician.

The complete course of treatment comprises six doses over a 60-hour period. Dosage is strictly based on bodyweight and varies for adults/children. A physician will provide the specific schedule for the required number of tablets per dose at:

• Day 1 (0 hours - Initial Diagnosis)
• Day 1 (8 hours)
• Day 2 (24 hours)
• Day 2 (36 hours)
• Day 3 (48 hours)
• Day 3 (60 hours - Final Dose)

Proper Administration

• Administration: Take the prescribed number of tablets orally. The tablet should be taken with food or a milky drink. For small children, tablets may be crushed and mixed with a small amount of semi-solid food or liquid and consumed immediately.
• Missed Dose Guidance: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose. Adherence to the 60-hour, six-dose schedule is critical; consult your doctor if multiple doses are missed.

Contraindications of Lokmal Tablet QS-Combi

This is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM). Do NOT take Lokmal Tablet QS-Combi if you:

• Drug Allergies: Have a known hypersensitivity to Artemether, Lumefantrine, Paracetamol, or any component of the caplet formulation.
• Severe Malaria: It is not indicated for the treatment of severe malaria (WHO definition); a different therapeutic approach is required.
• Heart Conditions: Have a family history of congenital prolongation of the QTc interval on ECGs, have symptomatic arrhythmias, severe heart disease, or clinically relevant bradycardia (slow heart rate).
• Drug Interactions: Are currently taking any drug metabolized by the cytochrome enzyme CYP2D6 or strong CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampin, St. John's wort).
• Recent Antimalarial Use: Have recently used (within the past month) Halofantrine, Quinine, or Quinidine.

Side Effects of Lokmal Tablet QS-Combi

Side effects are common, but often mild and transient.

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Headache, dizziness, loss of appetite (anorexia), mild muscle/joint pain, tiredness/weakness (asthenia), nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cough, and trouble sleeping.
• Serious but Rare Side Effects (That May Require Medical Attention): Abnormal or fast/pounding heartbeat, fainting, severe vomiting (especially if unable to hold food down), or any signs of a severe allergic reaction (rash, hives, swelling of the face/throat). If any serious symptoms occur, call your doctor immediately.
• Note: The active ingredients can prolong the QT interval in the heart; ECG monitoring may be required in some patients.

Precautions and Warnings of Lokmal Tablet QS-Combi

• Before Starting Lokmal Tablet QS-Combi (Medical History): Inform your doctor of your full medical history, especially: any heart problems (including low potassium or magnesium levels), severe liver or kidney problems, or recent use of other antimalarial drugs.
• During Use (Food Intake): Lokmal Tablet QS-Combi must be taken with food or a fatty drink (like milk) to ensure adequate absorption of Artemether and Lumefantrine. If a patient is averse to food, they must be encouraged to resume normal eating as soon as possible.
• Vomiting Guidance: If vomiting occurs within one hour of taking a dose, a repeat dose must be taken. If vomiting persists, inform the doctor immediately as an alternative treatment may be required.
• Contraception: This medication may decrease the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives (pills, patches, rings). Use an alternative barrier method (like a condom) to prevent pregnancy during and shortly after the treatment course.
• Driving: Driving or operating heavy machinery is not recommended due to the potential for dizziness and fatigue.
