Proper Usage and Dosing

Ulgicid Suspension is an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine, but it is important to follow dosage instructions.

• Proper Administration: Shake the bottle thoroughly before pouring the dose. Measure the exact amount using a measuring spoon or cup. Ulgicid is taken orally.
• Dosage: The recommended dosage for adults is typically 10–20 mL (two to four teaspoonfuls) three or four times daily, or as required.
• Frequency: Best taken after meals and at bedtime, or whenever symptoms occur. Do not exceed four doses daily unless specifically directed by a doctor.
• Missed Dose Guidance: Since Ulgicid is an on-demand medication for symptoms, there is no risk in missing a dose. Simply take the next dose when symptoms return.

Contraindications (Usage Restrictions)

Do NOT take Ulgicid Suspension if you have:

• Allergy: Hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the active or inactive ingredients (e.g., Alginic Acid, Aluminium/Magnesium salts, Dimethicone).
• Kidney Failure: Severe kidney failure, as the body may struggle to excrete the Magnesium and Aluminium components, leading to potential toxicity.
• Severely Debilitated Patients: Use should be avoided or closely monitored.
• Age Restriction: Antacids are generally not recommended for children under 6 years of age unless explicitly instructed by a physician.

Device Function and Maintenance (Side Effects and Precautions)

• Side Effects:
  • Common Side Effects: Changes in bowel habits. Aluminium tends to cause constipation, while Magnesium tends to cause diarrhea. The balanced formula is designed to minimize these effects, but they can still occur.
  • Serious Side Effects: Rare allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing) or signs of high levels of Aluminium/Magnesium (muscle weakness, confusion). Stop use and consult a doctor immediately.
• Precautions:
  • Long-Term Use: Do not use for prolonged periods (more than 14 days) or in excessively high doses without medical advice, as this can lead to electrolyte disturbances (e.g., low phosphate levels) or accumulation of Aluminium.
  • Drug Interactions: Always observe the timing rule: take other medicines at least 1 hour before or 4 hours after Ulgicid to prevent reduced absorption of the other drug.
  • Underlying Conditions: If symptoms persist for more than 7 days, if you experience weight loss, or have difficulty swallowing, consult a doctor immediately to rule out a more serious underlying condition.
