Dosage of Vasoprin

Vasoprin is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM). Take as directed by the pharmacist or physician. The dosage is strictly determined by the patient's condition and the specific formulation used.

• Typical Dose (Antiplatelet): One 75 mg tablet, taken once daily.
• Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
• Best Time to Take It: Always take Vasoprin with food or a meal to minimize stomach irritation and reduce the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Try to take it at the same time each day for consistency.
• Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet, especially if it is enteric-coated (designed to dissolve in the intestine).

Contraindications of Vasoprin

Do NOT take Vasoprin if you:

• Drug Allergies: Are allergic to Acetylsalicylic Acid (Aspirin), NSAIDs, or any component of the tablet.
• Pre-existing Medical Conditions: Have a history of active or recurrent peptic ulcers or severe gastrointestinal bleeding. Have a blood clotting disorder (haemophilia) or severe liver or kidney disease.
• Age Restrictions: Should not be given to children or teenagers with viral infections (e.g., flu, chickenpox) due to the risk of Reye's syndrome (a rare but serious illness).
• Drug Interactions: Are taking other antiplatelet or anticoagulant medicines, or high-dose Methotrexate (used for certain cancers or autoimmune diseases). Patients taking erectile dysfunction medicines (e.g., sildenafil) should NOT take combination Vasoprin LS due to the risk of severe hypotension.

Side Effects of Vasoprin

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Increased tendency for bruising or minor bleeding (e.g., nosebleeds, bleeding gums), heartburn, nausea, stomach discomfort/pain, and indigestion.
• Serious but Rare Side Effects (Requires Immediate Medical Attention):
  • Major Bleeding: Vomiting blood, passing blood in the stool, or passing black, tarry stools (signs of severe GI bleeding).
  • Severe Allergic Reaction: Difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or rash.
  • Hemorrhagic Stroke: Sudden severe headache, weakness on one side of the body, or difficulty speaking (a rare but known risk).
• What to do if side effects occur: If you notice any signs of serious bleeding or a severe allergic reaction, stop taking Vasoprin immediately and seek emergency medical attention.

Precautions and Warnings of Vasoprin

• Before Starting Vasoprin: A thorough medical history must be taken, including any history of asthma, allergies, gout, or controlled stomach ulcers.
• During Use: Avoid other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen) unless approved by your doctor, as they increase the risk of bleeding. If you require surgery, your doctor may instruct you to temporarily stop taking Vasoprin several days beforehand.
• Long-term Safety Considerations: Due to the risk of GI irritation, long-term users are sometimes prescribed an additional medication (like a proton pump inhibitor) to protect the stomach lining.

Pack Size: Vasoprin tablets (75 mg or combination variants) are typically supplied in blister packs, commonly available in packs of 10 or 30 tablets.
