Contraindications of Xarelto

Do NOT take Xarelto if you:

• Have active major bleeding (e.g., a stomach ulcer or brain bleed).

• Have a mechanical heart valve.

Side Effects of Xarelto

• Common: Easy bruising, minor nosebleeds, or bleeding from the gums when brushing teeth.
• Serious (Rare): Heavy menstrual bleeding, red or black/tarry stools, coughing up blood, or sudden severe headache/weakness.
• Action: If you experience a fall or a blow to the head, seek medical attention immediately even if you feel fine, as internal bleeding may occur.

Precautions and Warnings

• Surgery: Inform your surgeon or dentist that you are taking Xarelto before any procedure; you may need to pause it briefly.
• Spinal Procedures: There is a high risk of spinal blood clots if you undergo spinal anesthesia while on this medication.
• Interactions: Avoid using NSAIDs (like Ibuprofen or Aspirin) unless specifically directed by your doctor, as these increase bleeding risks.
