Cyproheptadine is an 5-HT antagonist and his mild anticholinergic and sedative properties. The antihistaminic property is responsible for the antiallegic action while the effect of the 5-HT is responsible for the CNS action including relief from migraine.
Dosage:
- Adults: 1 caplet twice daily after meals
- Children 10 - 15 years: one caplet daily after meals
- 6 - 10 years: 1/2 caplet daily after meals
Below 6 years: cyprigols syrup is recommended
Side Effects:
Most common side effect is drowsiness. Other side effects are nausea, vomiting, dry mouth and dizziness. However these are not likely to occur at the recommended doses.
