Dosage of Elastoplast Waterproof Plasters

Elastoplast Waterproof Plasters are an Over-the-Counter (OTC) consumable.

Use one plaster per wound, once daily, or as needed.

Proper Administration

• Route: Topical application to the skin.
• How to Use:
  1. Clean the wound and dry the skin area very carefully.
  2. Remove the backing film from the adhesive side of the plaster.
  3. Apply the plaster pad side down onto the wound, ensuring the pad covers the wound completely.
  4. Press down firmly, ensuring all edges are completely sealed against the skin, especially around the perimeter.
• Timing: Apply immediately before activities that involve water exposure.

Contraindications of Elastoplast Waterproof Plasters

Do NOT use Elastoplast Waterproof Plasters if:

• The wound is deep, severely bleeding, or shows clear signs of active infection (increased redness, pus, pain, warmth).
• You are allergic to the adhesive material or the plaster material.
• You are attempting to reuse the plaster (use only once).

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warnings

• General: As a non-medicated external plaster, Elastoplast Waterproof Plasters are safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side Effects of Elastoplast Waterproof Plasters

Side effects are rare and typically related to skin sensitivity to the strong adhesive.

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Temporary redness, mild irritation, or slight skin maceration (whitening/softening) if the plaster is left on for too long or if the skin is very sensitive.
• Serious but Rare Side Effects (that may require medical attention):
  • Allergic Contact Dermatitis: Persistent redness, itching, or swelling underneath or around the plaster (requires immediate removal and consultation).

What to do if side effects occur:

• If irritation or rash occurs, remove the plaster immediately, gently clean the skin, and use an alternative sensitive-skin plaster (like the Elastoplast Sensitive line) or sterile dressing.

Precautions and Warnings of Elastoplast Waterproof Plasters

• Clean Wound First: Always clean the wound with an antiseptic (e.g., Elastoplast Wound Spray) and gently dry the surrounding skin before applying the plaster to prevent infection and ensure maximum waterproof adhesion.
• Change Regularly: Change the plaster daily, or immediately if the seal around the wound pad is broken or the pad is saturated.
• Ensure Full Seal: For maximum waterproof effectiveness, ensure the plaster is applied smoothly, without creases, and that the adhesive forms a complete seal around the entire perimeter of the wound pad.
• Do Not Stretch: Apply the plaster without stretching it or creating air bubbles, which can compromise the waterproof seal.
• Consult Doctor: Seek medical professional help for deep cuts, animal bites, serious burns, or wounds that do not show signs of healing.

The plasters are made of waterproof, flexible, and often transparent film/plastic with a non-stick wound pad and a strong, perimeter-sealing adhesive. They are often Latex-Free. They are supplied in boxes of assorted strips (e.g., 10 or 20 strips). It is an Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medical Consumable.
