Dosage of Fucidin Cream 30g

Fucidin Cream 30g is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM).

Apply a small amount to the affected area two to three times daily, or as directed by the physician.

Proper Administration

• Route: Topical cream (External Use Only).
• How to Use:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application (unless treating the hands).
  2. Clean and gently dry the affected skin area.
  3. Apply a very thin layer of cream to the infected area and rub it in gently.
  4. If your doctor advises covering the area with a dressing or bandage, the application frequency may be reduced (often to once or twice daily).
• Timing: Apply 2 to 3 times daily, at evenly spaced intervals, for the duration prescribed (usually 7-10 days).

Missed Dose Guidance

• If you forget to apply a dose, apply it as soon as you remember.
• Then continue to use it at the usual time. Do not apply a double amount to make up for a missed dose.

Contraindications of Fucidin Cream 30g

Do NOT use Fucidin Cream 30g if you:

• Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Fusidic Acid or any of the inactive ingredients.
• Are treating infections known to be caused by non-susceptible organisms (e.g., fungal or viral infections).

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warnings

• Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. Systemic exposure to topically-applied Fusidic Acid is negligible. The cream can generally be used during pregnancy, but only if prescribed by a physician.
• Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor. The cream can generally be used during breastfeeding, but it is recommended to avoid applying Fucidin Cream on the breast area to prevent accidental ingestion by the infant.

Side Effects of Fucidin Cream 30g

Side effects are generally localized to the application site and are usually mild.

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Application site reactions, including pain, burning sensation, irritation, stinging, itching, or redness (erythema) immediately following application. These are usually temporary.
• Serious but Rare Side Effects (that may require medical attention):
  • Allergic Reactions: Severe rash, hives (urticaria), swelling of the face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing (Angioedema).
  • Resistance: Long-term use (beyond 7-10 days) increases the risk of bacteria developing resistance to the antibiotic.

What to do if side effects occur:

• For mild irritation or stinging, continue use, but if it bothers you or persists, consult your doctor.
• If you experience a severe allergic reaction, stop the medication immediately and seek emergency medical attention.

Precautions and Warnings of Fucidin Cream 30g

• Prescription Only: This cream must be used only under the direction of a physician.
• Duration of Use: Do NOT use Fucidin Cream for longer than 7 to 10 days, unless specifically instructed by your doctor. Prolonged use increases the risk of antibiotic resistance.
• Avoid Eyes and Mucous Membranes: Take special care if applying near the eyes or face, as ingredients may cause irritation to the eyes and mucous membranes. Rinse immediately if contact occurs.
• Fire Hazard: Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings, etc.) that has been in contact with this product burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Avoid smoking or going near naked flames. Wash clothing and bedding regularly.

Complete the Course: Even if the skin looks better after a few days, complete the full course to ensure all bacteria are eliminated and prevent the infection from returning.

The active ingredient is Fusidic Acid (2% w/w). It is supplied as a topical cream in a 30g aluminum tube. It is a Topical Antibiotic and is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM).
