Dosage of Moko Gentian Violet Solution

Moko Gentian Violet Solution is an Over-the-Counter (OTC) antiseptic.

Apply a small amount to the affected area once or twice daily, or as directed by the pharmacist or physician.

Proper Administration

• Route: Topical liquid.
• How to Use:
  1. Clean and gently dry the affected area.
  2. Use a clean cotton swab or cotton ball to apply a thin layer of the solution directly to the cut, graze, or infected area.
  3. Allow the solution to dry completely before covering (if necessary).
• Timing: Typically applied once or twice daily, or as needed until the condition improves.
• Duration: Use for a short period (e.g., up to 7 days) for minor infections. If there is no improvement, consult a doctor.

Missed Dose Guidance

• Not applicable. Simply resume the application at the next scheduled time.

Contraindications of Moko Gentian Violet Solution

Do NOT use Moko Gentian Violet Solution if you:

• Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Gentian Violet or any other ingredient in the solution.
• Have large, deep, weeping, or surgical wounds, as the dye may conceal signs of infection or slow healing.
• Are using it on an ulcerative lesion on the face.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warnings

• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor. While topical absorption is minimal, use should be cautious, particularly on the breast area during breastfeeding to prevent accidental ingestion by the infant.

Side Effects of Moko Gentian Violet Solution

Side effects are generally localized to the application site.

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Temporary deep violet staining of the skin, clothing, and surfaces. Mild local irritation, redness, or itching at the site of application.
• Serious but Rare Side Effects (that may require medical attention):
  • Severe Allergic Reactions: Rash, hives, or swelling.
  • Tissue Necrosis: Applying the solution to large, open wounds or using highly concentrated solutions may rarely cause irritation or tissue damage.

What to do if side effects occur:

• Staining: The violet stain will fade over time but may require vigorous washing to remove from clothing.
• If you notice severe or persistent irritation, or signs of an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician.
• If swallowed: Seek immediate medical attention, as large doses may be toxic.

Precautions and Warnings of Moko Gentian Violet Solution

• External Use Only: This product is strictly for external, topical application. Do not swallow.
• Avoid Eyes: Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
• Concealing Infection: Due to its dark colour, Moko Gentian Violet Solution should not be applied to large areas where the colour might conceal signs of spreading infection (e.g., severe redness, pus) that need immediate medical attention.
• Aspiration Hazard: When treating infants for oral thrush, apply with care to avoid the baby inhaling the liquid.
• Do Not Use Occlusively: Do not apply under occlusive dressings or bandages without consulting a doctor.

The active ingredient is Crystal Violet (Methylrosanilinium Chloride, typically 0.5% or 1.0%). It is supplied as a dark violet topical solution in a bottle (common sizes are 10 mL or 20 mL). It is an Over-the-Counter (OTC) Antiseptic and Antifungal Drug.
