Dosage of Cataflam 50mg Tablets

Cataflam 50mg Tablets are a Prescription Only Medicine (POM).

Take as directed by the pharmacist or physician.

Dosage is individualized and should be kept to the minimum required for relief. The typical adult dose is 100 mg to 150 mg daily, usually divided into 2 or 3 doses. Do not exceed 150 mg per day for long-term treatment.

Proper Administration

• Route: Oral.
• How to Take: Swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water. Do not crush, chew, or suck the tablets.
• Food/Drink Interactions: Although food does not significantly affect absorption, it is often recommended to take Cataflam 50mg Tablets before a meal for rapid effect, or with food/milk if you experience stomach upset.
• Position: Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking the tablet.

Missed Dose Guidance

• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose.
• Skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Contraindications of Cataflam 50mg Tablets

Do NOT take Cataflam 50mg Tablets if you:

• Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Diclofenac Potassium, other NSAIDs (such as Aspirin or Ibuprofen), or any other ingredient in the tablet.
• Have experienced an asthma attack, hives (urticaria), or severe allergic-type reaction after taking aspirin or any other NSAID.
• Have an active gastric or intestinal ulcer, bleeding, or perforation in the stomach or gut.
• Are in the last three months of pregnancy.
• Have severe heart failure, liver failure, or kidney failure.
• Are undergoing or have recently undergone Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warnings

• Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. Do not take Cataflam 50mg Tablets in the last trimester of pregnancy as it can harm the fetus's heart and kidneys. Use during the first two trimesters only if clearly necessary and directed by a doctor.
• Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor. Diclofenac passes into breast milk in small amounts. It is generally advised not to use this medication while breastfeeding to avoid undesirable effects in the infant.

Side Effects of Cataflam 50mg Tablets

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Stomach upset, including nausea, vomiting, indigestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation; headache, dizziness, and mild skin rash.

  • Gastrointestinal Bleeding: Bloody or black, tarry stools; vomiting blood that looks like coffee grounds.
  • Cardiovascular Events: Chest pain, sudden weakness on one side of the body, shortness of breath, slurring of speech (signs of heart attack or stroke).
  • Severe Allergic/Skin Reactions: Swelling of the face, lips, or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe blistering skin rashes (e.g., Stevens-Johnson Syndrome).
  • Liver Problems: Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine, nausea, or right upper abdominal pain.

• Cardiovascular and GI Risk: Cataflam 50mg Tablets may increase the risk of serious, potentially fatal, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal events. This risk may increase with higher doses and longer duration of use. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary.
• Before Starting: Inform your doctor if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, fluid retention, kidney or liver problems, asthma, or a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding.
• During Use:
  • Alcohol: Limit or avoid alcohol, as it increases the risk of stomach bleeding.
  • Other NSAIDs: Do not combine Cataflam 50mg Tablets with other NSAIDs (like Ibuprofen or Naproxen) or high-dose aspirin without medical advice.
  • Driving/Machinery: If you experience dizziness, drowsiness, or visual disturbances, do not drive or operate machinery.
