Dosage of Diprosalic Ointment 100g

Diprosalic Ointment 100g is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM).

Apply a thin layer gently rubbed into the affected area twice a day, or as directed by the physician.

Proper Administration

• Route: Topical Ointment (External Use Only).
• How to Use:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application.
  2. Clean and gently dry the affected scaly area.
  3. Apply a very thin film of ointment to completely cover the affected area. Gently massage it into the skin until it disappears.
• Timing: Typically applied twice daily (morning and evening) for the duration prescribed (maximum 14 days).

Missed Dose Guidance

• If you forget to apply a dose, apply it as soon as you remember.
• Then continue to use it at the usual time. Do not apply a double amount to compensate for a missed dose.

Contraindications of Diprosalic Ointment 100g

Do NOT use Diprosalic Ointment 100g if you:

• Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Betamethasone, Salicylic Acid, or any other component.
• Have viral skin infections, such as Herpes Simplex (cold sores), Chickenpox, or Shingles.
• Have Acne, Rosacea, or Perioral Dermatitis (rash around the mouth).
• Have untreated fungal or bacterial skin infections (the steroid can mask or worsen them).
• Are treating nappy rash or genital itching.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warnings

• Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits clearly outweigh the risks. Use should be limited, avoiding large areas or prolonged use.
• Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor. Use only under medical supervision. Avoid applying to the breast area to prevent accidental ingestion by the infant.

Side Effects of Diprosalic Ointment 100g

Side effects can occur, particularly with prolonged use, under occlusion, or on sensitive skin areas.

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Local application site reactions, including burning, itching, mild dryness, or redness, often temporary.
• Serious but Rare Side Effects (that may require medical attention):
  • Steroid-related Side Effects (Long-term/Extensive Use): Skin thinning (atrophy), stretch marks (striae), excessive hair growth, inflammation of hair follicles (folliculitis), or changes in skin colour.
  • Systemic Absorption: Prolonged use, especially on large areas or in children, can lead to systemic steroid effects (e.g., Cushing's syndrome, growth retardation) or Salicylism (ringing in ears, dizziness, nausea).
  • Visual Disturbances: Blurred vision or other visual problems.

What to do if side effects occur:

• If you notice signs of skin thinning, red marks, persistent rash, or any systemic symptoms, stop the medication immediately and seek medical attention.

Precautions and Warnings of Diprosalic Ointment 100g

• Prescription Only: This potent cream must be used only under the direction of a physician.
• Duration of Use: Do NOT use for longer than 2 weeks unless specifically advised by your doctor, to minimize the risk of steroid side effects. Dosage in children should be limited to 5 days.
• Facial Use: Use with extreme caution and for short periods only on the face, as the risk of steroid side effects (thinning, rosacea) is much higher.
• Avoid Occlusion: Do not use under bandages, plasters, or tight clothing unless specifically directed by your doctor, as this drastically increases absorption.
• Avoid Eyes: Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. Glaucoma may result if used near the eyes.
• Diabetics: Use with caution, as topical salicylic acid may sometimes cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

The active ingredients are Betamethasone Dipropionate (potent corticosteroid) and Salicylic Acid (keratolytic). It is supplied as a smooth, off-white topical ointment in a 100g tube. It is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM).
