Dosage of Gyno-Tiocosid Vaginal Tablets

Gyno-Tiocosid Vaginal Tablets may be sold as an OTC product or a Prescription Only Medicine (POM).

Insert 1 tablet deep into the vagina for 3 consecutive nights, or as directed by the pharmacist or physician.

Proper Administration

• Route: Vaginal insertion (Intravaginal).
• How to Use:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after using the medicine.
  2. Lie on your back with your knees toward your chest.
  3. Gently insert the vaginal tablet (pessary) high into the vagina, using an applicator if provided, or a clean finger.
• Timing: It is best to use this medication just before bedtime to ensure the tablet remains in place and is absorbed while lying down.
• Duration: It is vital to continue using the medicine for the full prescribed duration (e.g., 3 nights), even if symptoms improve quickly, to ensure the infection is completely cleared.

Missed Dose Guidance

• If you miss a dose, insert it as soon as you remember.
• Continue with the regular scheduled nighttime insertions until the full course is completed.

Contraindications of Gyno-Tiocosid Vaginal Tablets

Do NOT use Gyno-Tiocosid Vaginal Tablets if you:

• Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Tioconazole or any other imidazole antifungal derivative (e.g., Clotrimazole, Miconazole) or any component of the pessary base.
• Are experiencing unusual symptoms such as fever, chills, lower abdominal/pelvic pain, shoulder pain, or foul-smelling vaginal discharge, as these may be signs of a more serious infection requiring oral antibiotics.
• Have never had a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed by a doctor.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Warnings

• Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. Use during pregnancy should only occur when clearly needed and under a doctor's guidance. The doctor may advise on the safest method of insertion.
• Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor. It is unknown whether Tioconazole passes into breast milk. Use only when advised by a healthcare professional.

Side Effects of Gyno-Tiocosid Vaginal Tablets

Side effects are generally localized to the application site.

• Common Side Effects (Mild and Expected): Mild increase in vaginal burning, itching, or irritation immediately after insertion. Headache, mild abdominal cramping, or vaginal redness/swelling.
• Serious but Rare Side Effects (that may require medical attention):
  • Severe Allergic Reaction: Hives, severe difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Worsening Symptoms: If initial symptoms of the infection worsen, persist for more than 7 days, or if new symptoms (like fever or pain) develop.

What to do if side effects occur:

• For mild temporary burning/irritation, this often subsides.
• If irritation is severe or persistent, or if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, stop the medication immediately and seek emergency medical attention.

Precautions and Warnings of Gyno-Tiocosid Vaginal Tablets

• External Use Only: This product is for vaginal insertion only. Do not take by mouth.
• Sexual Intercourse: Avoid vaginal intercourse during the treatment period and for at least 3 days after treatment is complete.
• Barrier Contraception: This product may contain mineral oil or petrolatum, which can weaken the latex in condoms or diaphragms, leading to contraceptive failure. Use an alternative non-latex birth control method during treatment and for at least 3 days after.
• Menstruation: It is advisable not to start treatment during menstruation. If the period begins during the treatment, stop the medication and restart after the period is complete, or follow your doctor's specific advice.

Self-Treatment: Do not use for self-treatment if you have a compromised immune system (e.g., HIV/AIDS, diabetes) or if you experience frequent infections.
